What is astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin is a red-orange xanthophyll carotenoid obtained from the microalga Haematococcus pluvialis, and it is the same pigment that makes salmon flesh and shrimp pink. In chemical terms it is classified as an antioxidant carotenoid.
When should I take astaxanthin?
Astaxanthin is fat-soluble, so it is usually taken with a meal that contains some fat, because fat-soluble compounds are absorbed together with dietary fat. Follow the amount and directions printed on the product label.
